Pink diamonds are among the most sought-after fancy colors diamonds in the world; buyers, collectors, and investors try to source these exquisite diamonds due to their rarity and appeal as an alternative investment.

Why Pink?

Like Red Diamonds Pink diamonds remain a mystery as to the geological science to what causes the pink. Some scientists believe it is due to an atomic level lattice defect that selectively absorbs light, producing a pink hue, but it is still a mystery, and this is only a theory.

Diamonds have four main characteristics when looking for quality; Color, Cut, Clarity, and Carat Weight. However, unlike colorless diamonds, where the 4Cs are of the same importance, the color of Fancy Color Diamonds is the most significant characteristic of all.

Secondary Hues

Pure colored pink diamonds without any secondary hue are more valuable. However, due to its magnificent appearance, a purplish-pink diamond is also considered most preferred.

Color Intensities

Pink colored diamonds come in intensity grade in the GIA grading scale; Faint, Very Light, Light, Fancy Light, Fancy, Fancy Intense, Fancy Vivid, Fancy Deep and Fancy Dark intensity grades depending on the color combinations within the stone.

Argyle Diamonds

Pink Diamonds are found in very few mines worldwide. The Argyle Diamond mine was the largest source of pink diamonds, producing 90% of the global supply; however, this mine closed in November 2020, as an alternative investment, diamonds from Argyle continue to produce spectacular results. The color of stones found from that mine so unique that any experienced gemologist or diamond buyer can identify the origin of the diamond by viewing the stone.
